We at :iconnude-form: had the pleasure of interviewing :iconcarolinecherry:. Our aim with this interview series is to provide insight in how other people approach their work but allows us in getting to know our fellow members. Below is interview.

Nude-Form Question 1: Let's start by telling us something about yourself?

CarolineCherry Answer: I'm Caroline [aka Roli], a photographer and model from Australia. I'm super lucky because my partner is an excellent photographer too, and we have many epic photographic adventures.

Q2: What attracted you to the photographic medium?

I've always loved taking photos, ever since I was given my first camera at age seven. I think it was being able to capture not only an event, location or person but an emotion and a memory that really got me hooked. When I got older I started modelling, and then got into photographing models myself.

Q3: What do you like to during your free time?

I play a lot of games - computer games, tabletop games, card games, board games :p .... My man and I also watch lots of movies, and read a lot of fantasy novels.

Q4: Do you partake in any other creative endeavours?

I sew a bit, and make some creative props and jewelery for photoshoots. I've also been working on-and-off on various writing projects for ages.

Q5: Work long enough in this business, you're bound to experience some comedic episodes even if its only funny in hindsight. Would you be willing to share one of yours?

There's always odd things happening, awkward moments that divulge into laughter. Most of my funny moments come from me being an idiot, especially when I'm modelling - I mean, when your posing nude on a bed who wouldn't cover themselves with the sheets and pretend to be a ghost??

Q6: For the sake of this question, we'll take for granted that "respecting the model as a human being" is the unspoken first piece of advice. What other advice would you give another photographer, perhaps working w/ their first nude model?

Especially if it's a first time, forget that the model is naked. I mean, obviously you are shooting nudes but never, ever, EVER make the nudity the forefront of the shoot.

As a photographer, you still have to skilfully direct your model, make sure your lighting is good, capture whatever concept or emotion you were striving to achieve and get good shots. And that's no different if a model is clothed or nude, so I feel it's really important to basically ignore the nudity as much as possible.

Q7: What do you are feel your strengths?

If we're talking photographically, I think that my greatest strength is that, having done a lot of shoots on both sides of the camera, I can be more understanding and communicate better.

When modelling, I'm aware of light sources and how my particular body type looks on-camera [though admittedly, any good model should know these things!] and when photographing a model, especially an inexperienced one, I really do understand and can demonstrate certain poses and expressions.

Q8: We each have a defining moment in our life, sometimes we have more than one. It changes us from who we were to who we became afterwards. Please tell us yours & how it changed you.

Meeting my partner and moving out of my family home was really the moment that made me finish growing up, in a way. I went from a girl to a woman then - a young woman still, but a woman nevertheless.

Q9: If given a choice between listening to Beatles music OR Elvis, which would you choose?

Honestly I don't really like either much, so I'd choose Elvis because I been subjected to less of it!

Q10: Any nuggets of wisdom you'd like to share w/ models working w/ you?

Chillax and enjoy yourself, you'll do you best work when you're happy :D

Q11: Pretend personnel & budget were not an issue. Describe us your dream shoot or concept?

Probably something involving water, horses, two redheads and a male model too. I know that sounds like the premise of something xxx rated but admittedly I jump from idea to idea all the time so I don't really have a dream shoot. I'd just love to be able to work with really top quality models, and be able to hire beautiful locations like old houses or fantastic gardens.

Q12: What are the most common set of difficulties you've experienced as a photographer?

Trying to shoot in natural light on a really sunny day. Nothing is more annoying than planning a shoot on a location, then having the day be super-sunny.

Q13: What is the proudest moment you've experienced as a photographer?

At the end of 2010 I made a calendar of my work - came up with a concept, shot the models and had it printed. Financially it was a failure, but I'm still really proud of seeing that project through.

Q14: Tell us the story behind your user name (at the time this was initially written anyways)?

I write a lot, and Maithiran was the name of one of my characters in a fantasy I was writing a very long time ago. I have trouble coming up with usernames so I tend to use the same ones over and over, and when I joined dA Maithiran was the username of the year :)

Q15: Aside from a person's look meeting a particular project, what else goes into your decision making whether to work w/ a particular model or not?

I like my shoots to be fun for everyone involved, so I just look for enthusiastic, like-minded and friendly people. It's great to spend an afternoon shooting, and have it feel like your hanging out with a friend, and just taking photos on the side.

Q16: If you were dictator-king, what you would change about either photography, modeling, or the industry itself?

Make the plus-size model more widely accepted, and models who are of shorter stature. I do understand how in the fashion industry models need to be of certain proportions, but six foot tall and size six doesn't have to be the only set of proportions.

Q17: Who are some visual artists you admire, whether they be here on :devart: or elsewhere? The answer need not be limited to the photographic medium either.

To list just a few by DA username [in no particular order]:

:icon3wyl: :iconhelenarey: :iconhart-worx:

I'm actually terrible at picking favourites. There are a hundred other artist of all styles and mediums who's work I admire, but I'm so bad at pulling up names on demand! So I've probably forgotten an absolute favourite, and I'll remember their username in an hour or so :p

And of course, I think my photographer boyfriend is fantastic :)

Q18: Favorite cartoon character?

Sailor Mercury - she's cute and smart and has blue hair. It's a win all round :)

Q19: Who would win in a 3-way fight: pirates, ninjas, or robots? Most importantly, HOW do they win?

Robots. They will fire lasers from their eyes and their metal skins will make them invulnerable. The pirates and ninjas would, unfortunately, be slaughtered, and their dead bodies turned into fuel for the robots to continue their rampage towards world domination.

Q20: Favorite movie?

Too many. It might be a Disney film. Or perhaps Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. I'm not too sure :)

Q21: What's your favorite book & tell us about it?

Probably The Old Kingdom Trilogy by Garth Nix - and yes, I know it's a series not a single book! It's awesome, creative fantasy with zombies. What more could you want?

Q22: Anything else that you'd like to add or ask us here at Nude-Form group?

I'll finish by sharing something wise I read online years ago: Age doesn't matter...unless you are a cheese :p And I am not a cheese :)

We appreciate you allowing us to pick your brain. Keep up the great work & best of luck to you in the future.

For those who are interested (or are new & have not had an opportunity to read them all), here is a list of our past interviews. Feel free to comment away if you so desire because we here at the Nude-Form group LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE feedback. We hope they're illuminating.

Beyond that if anyone wishes to have something asked on a regular basis (it can be photo/art related or just irreverant), you are encouraged to privately message the group. The same applies if you wish to be interviewed (it saves me the energy in thinking who I should pitch the offer to & whatnot). It doesn't matter if you're mainly a model or a photographer, we're interested in a variety of perspectives for this series.

Great interview!
Maybe one question I was missing: do you have a plan, which pictures you do with this model? Or does the model inspire you on the set/location?

For me it's hard to answer, because sometimes I have a plan but the model inspire me to change complete. I have a great model, well known here as a nude model, and work 3/4 of our time in fashion and portrait.....
So it's interesting to here if there is a 'script book' or is it free.

Thx for the interview  :highfive:
